Akc Dog Breed Listing

AKC Dog Owner – Challenges Faced By These Owners
Sometimes, dog owners might feel that adopting a mongrel at an animal shelter is much better that owning an expensive AKC pup. The cost of the pup is the highest; an AKC registered pup might cost you anywhere between three hundred dollars to thousands of dollars. On the other hand, a pup adopted from from the animal shelter will not cost you more than two hundred dollars; moreover, it will already be neutered or spayed and will have received its shots.
You will feel that adopting a pup is much cheaper especially when you spend on liability insurance. An insurance policy that pays compensation to a party injured by your dog is called Liability insurance. Liability insurance companies have placed several American Kennel Club recognized breeds in their list of dogs that have the highest risk. These breeds cost their owners more in terms of premiums. For example, many specially trained guard dogs are considered to be high risk dogs.
Purchasing a pet health care insurance will also cost you dearly. Moreover, several pet health care insurance companies don’t provide any protection against genetic disorders common in particular breeds.
People who own an English Cocker Spaniel might find it difficult to insure the kidneys of their pups till its second birthday. This particular breed commonly develops a genetic disorder called Familial Nephropathy. English Cocker Spaniel pups that develop such a disorder die before they reach two years of age. Ways of identifying what type of puppies might develop this disorder have not yet been discovered.
If you own a breed of huge dog such as the Caucasian Mountain Dog, Great Dane, Rottweilers, and American Staffordshire Terriers, you might also find it difficult to get insurance protection because these breeds are prone to hip dysplasia, a hereditary disorder that affects the dogs hip joints. Dogs suffering from this disorder cannot walk normally and have a characteristic wobbly style of walking. They also find it difficult to fold their legs under themselves. Usually, pet health insurance companies won’t insure young pups until a medical test has been done to prove that they are healthy and safe from dysplasia.
Bulldogs usually suffer from breathing disorders due of their flat faces and constricted breathing passages. In addition, they usually get affected by disorders such as stroke, birthing problems, allergies, cataracts, sleep apnea, cherry eye, and hip problems.
Great Danes have genetic disorders characterized by slow metabolism, twisted gut, congenital heart problems, staph infections, bloat, hip dysplasia, and yeast infection. If you purchase a white Great Dane, it will most probably be deaf as well as blind.
Usually, pet health insurance companies don’t insure the eyes of certain breeds unless you prove that the dog was purchased from a breeder who has a Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF) certificate. Breeders who hold such a certificate have been acknowledged to breed puppies that are free from known eye disorders.
