Bernese Mountain Dog Health Issues

Golden Mountain Dog puppy cost–Bernese + Golden Retriever?

I’m looking into getting a “Golden Mountain Dog” which was bred from a 100% Golden retriever & 100% Bernese MT. Dog. This wasn’t intentional as the 2 dogs are neighbors & happen to hook up. Both the parents come from good lines & are around 5-6 years old w/no health issues.

The owner is asking $600 which seems high as these are “mutts” & there are ads out there where I can get 100% in either breed for the same price.

I know all about health issues on both sides. The owners are not breeders. I’m looking for thoughts on what would be a fair cost for one of these puppies that came from good/healthy parents and are well taken care of.

Free is the right price.

Of course this was intentional. People make a choice weather to spay and neuter their dogs, and they make a choice as to be responsible to having their dogs confined.

If they are charging money, I would like to know if their contract states they will take the dogs back at any time and for any reason if you can not keep it. Does their contract state you must spay or neuter the dogs? What health guarantees are they giving you on these dogs?

So for the kind of money they are asking, they have to give something back in return.

You state the parents are healthy. How are the OFAs on their hips and elbows? What about the other genetic testing they did on each dog to prove that they are healthy. Or do you think they just look healthy and that is good enough?

I would NOT encourage these backyard breeders by giving them any money. They will of course rebreed these dogs when they see how many suckers are willing to part with their money for them.
