Have a dog in heat ! How long do i need to keep male dogs away!?

Frist I know we should have her fixed but don’t  have $250.00 to pay for it right now! But how long do i need to keep her away from other boy dogs! She is a large breed dog!   We don’t want to have a ugly mixed breed batch of puppys! she’s Golden retriver and Siberian Husky mix>  Boy dog next door is a boxer that isn’t very bright! Don’t get me wrong I love all kinds of Animals! Just don’t want to mix thatbreed in with ours! Any information would help us out!

Normal heat cycles last 3 weeks from the time the females ‘privates’ start to swell. They swell for about a week, then bleed for about a week, then will breed with a male for about a week. Total 3 weeks. This is just the norm, and different dogs can have longer or shorter cycles. Best idea is to keep her confined for 4 weeks to be safe.

The Forrest Gump boxer next door may be doofy,, but they are strong dogs, and can tear through or dig under a fence to get to a female, so keep this in mind. Don’t let her out unsupervised for even one second during her heat, as they can tie with a male quicker than you think.
