Canadian Dog Breeders List
101 reasons to get your dog/cat spayed our neutered?
Everyday, there are multiple questions about breeding dogs (and our feline friends too). Unless they are a champion and have titles, are registered with the AKC or the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club- not continental) and have been genetically tested, they have no buisness breeding and should get their dog/cat fixed. Please list your reasons for getting a dog/cat spayed or neutered and any resources potential breeders should read.
Please star-we need to spread this around.
Anytime someone asks, should I breed or get my dog spayed, you can refer them to this question.
God bless
Amen to that!!
heres something funny that refers to this
Here is a list of the top 10 reasons why you should breed your dog.
1. Thought the house was too orderly
2. Never did like having a full nights sleep
3. Wanted my Vet to get a new BMW
4. Thought the furniture looked too nice
5. Love the sounds of puppies in the morning, noon, afternoon, evening, midnight, predawn, etc.
6. Garden and backyard needed renovations, and didn’t want to pay a gardener.
7. Neighbors didn’t complain enough
8. Kids weren’t enough of a challenge
9. If you can train & show one dog, why not ten?
10.Wanted to see if spouse really meant those vows.

You know your a Back Yard Breeder when:
-You breed your female everytime she comes into heat
-Prenatal care consists of adding wet food to the females diet and a vet check up at the local petsmart clinic!
-because of your poor breeding practices you end up with a couple of pups that are an unacceptable color for the breed so you call them “rare” and charge twice as much!
-you market the pups almost exclusively at the end of the Walmart parking lot
-If the pups dont sell at a certain prices you continue to lower the price until they do sell. Hey at least you got some money out of it.
-You know you’re a BYB when I come over and offer to rescue all your dogs
- When someone asks for “health certificates” you show them a receipt for a puppy wellness vet exam (OFA? CERF? MDR1? vW?..)
- You let anyone who will simply pay a deposit “pick” a puppy (no interviews, screening buyers, helping match the pup…)
- You don’t see anything wrong with releasing a 6.5 week old pup (illegal in some places, ruins socialization opportunities for the litter)
- You advertise pups as having solid temperaments because “the daddy is nice to everyone and the mommy doesn’t let bad guys in the house” (no true tests of temperament like TT, SchH, other tests specific to the temperament and working ability of the specific breed)
- You markup prices based on color, like an all-black GSD or a “fox red” labrador (these two breeds have no preference for color, one is not any more rare or desirable than another)
- someone asks you why you decided to breed your dogs and you give one of these replies:
1. So my kids could see the miracle of life
2. Because fluffy is the sweetest dog ever!
3. Decide?? I just couldn’t afford to get him/her neutered/spayed..
- If all the pups aren’t sold and gone by 5 weeks, there’s always the shelter!
- Because you want to “make back your money” on your initial purchase.
- Your dog doesn’t participate in anything but humping or birthing to make you money.
- You can’t even spell “whelping box”.
- “Healthy” pups means you bought some wormer at Walmart.
- You think your dog has special qualities that need to be reproduced because it excels at agility, flyball or chasing frisbees.
- you don’t know where the puppies are, if they are safe and cared for, or what they are doing after they leave your house at 6 – 8 weeks old.
- you have no idea how to spell the breed’s name.
- some breed specific ones because ……well we all know pit bulls have some of the most ill educated breeders on earth, LOL
1 you think blue or red nose is “rare” and a reason to charge more
2 you advertise the dogs are going to grow 100lbs or more
3 you advertise ‘massive heads, short, low to the ground, stalky”
4 you think merle is a cool new pit bull color
5 you spell it pitbull-one word……without the American Terrier in the description
6 UKC champion-no papers-$900
- GSD specific ones…
1 You try to pass off a husky mix as a Panda Shepherd
2 shepard, sheppard….need I say more?
3 You think an all black is rare so you raise the price
4 You specialize in “old world” GSDs (ie, fat dogs with sagging stomachs and plush coats)
5 You think GSDs are closely related to wolves (GSDs are one of the newest breeds!)
6 Potential buyers can’t meet the puppies’ parents because they will bite their hands off!
7 You think the dogs have a great pedigree because “they go back to Horand!” (Horand was one of the original GSDs, lol, they ALL go back to Horand!)
8You are proud of the fact that your stud dog weighs 120lbs
- you advertise in the local paper “Puppies ready just in time for Christmas!!!”
-You think de-worming a pup and giving him a Rabies vac. is all the health care he needs
-You advertise the pups as Champion Show quality when only the grandfather on the fathers side is a champion
-You think you know more then the adverage dog owner because you have bred over 200 litters of pups in the past year
-You get excited when you have a brood female who has many pups per litter, because you know you can breed her more
-You think a neutered dog is worthless because all dogs should the able to breed (WTF?)
-You think all cross bred dogs are super
