I am thinking about getting a Australian Shepherd and was wondering if anyone has had issues with this breed?

I have a medium sized yard, and I live in a somewhat busy city, but a few blocks from any major roads. I do not currently have a fence, but I plan on installing one and I am not sure on how high it should be. I work within 5 minutes of my home and I usually go home for lunch, but for most of the day the dog would be locked up. I’m wondering how their temperament is in this situation and in general. I would like a dog that is medium sized, intelligent, not high strung, and that can play catch with a Frisbee. Is there another breed I should consider?

Australian Shepards, like Border Collies, need a job and to be busy. They can learn to adapt to any environment you provide as long as you are dedicated to working with them when you are home. That means training and keeping them active. And this is DAILY, not once a week, not only when it’s sunny, etc.

Otherwise if that’s all something you can handle, if you like the breed, why not get one?
