which dog brred for me?

Me and my fiance are wanting to get a dog, she wants a puppy but ive been able to talk her into adopting. she likes siberian huskies and i pretty much like any dog although im partial to German Shepherd’s, and Akita’s. im looking into German Sheprador’s. i’ve read tons of info on all the above mentioned dogs and i was just wonder what your opinions were on which dog breed i should get.

I’ve become a huge fan of Akitas over the years but the more I learn about the breed the less I want to advise others to get one. I say this only because of the demands of this breed versus other breeds. Akitas can be awesome, I mean I love them and will have nothing else but like any dog it takes time, training, follow up and working with the indivitual dog’s personality. Akitas in general are very headstrong and independant. IMO probably more than any other breed I’ve known so they are not good for first time dog owners or anyone who wants a dog that’s “easy to deal with.” If you’re not familiar with how to be a proper alpha to your dog, it’s a requirement when owning an Akita-otherwise you’re in for a lifetime of issues that you’d rather not have. Ultimately both you and your dog would not be happy and you don’t want that.

I’ve known lots of people with German Shepards and have great respect for the breed. It seems to be a very alert and responsive breed that is quick to learn, loves to work and can fit in to odd situations much more with ease than Akitas.

For you I’d suggest the German Shepard of the two breeds-especially since kids are in the future. You may even want to check out things on the web to see if there are other breeds you and your lifestyle might be better matched to-places like Dogster, Animal Planet, Pets.com, etc. Don’t forget to check out your local shelter too-lots of great dogs to chose from at a fraction of the adoption cost, lots of assistance to help match you with the right dog plus you’ll be saving a life. When you get the dog, you want it to be for it’s entire lifetime so you want to make the right decision from the start. If you do it will pay off tons over the years.
