Dog Breed Kuvasz
Do you like Kuvasz dogs?
Hello People!
I’m looking into buying my first dog. My family has owned many dogs previously and I feel I have adequate skills and knowledge to raise a dog on my own. I would like to get a “Kuvasz”. I have read a lot about this breed, but I would like to know what all you Kuvasz owners think of this breed. I know they are natural herders and need a lot of exercise, for which I am prepared. I am very active myself; however, I’m worried that if I am unable to run him for a couple days in a row that he’ll go insane. Are they calm? Are they aggressive with strangers? And are they easily trainable? I will not tolerate a dog that won’t obey me.

Kuvasz aren’t herders, they are a livestock guardian breed. LGD’s are typically calm as adults as they were bred not to disturb the livestock. No kuvasz should be aggressive towards stranges, maybe aloof but never viscious.
Kuvasz are known to be head strong and aren’t typically the easiest dog to train. They were bred to be independent and make their own decision so obedience training can be difficult. Early socialization, training, and pack implication is important with this type of dog. I would recommend if this is your first dog, to hire a dog trainer early on before problems can aris.
