Dog DNA home-test-kit?

We recently adopted a puppy and nobody could tell us what breed he is. They said that the mother was some kind of a mix and nobody knows who the dad is. I’ve heard about those Home test kits. But I don’t know if I would waste my money on that. Do they actually work? Where do I get them?
Or does anybody about how much a “real” dna test at the vet is?
Of course I love my dog no matter what breed he is. I just would like to know because people ask all the time what he is and it makes me feel stupid to say “i don’t know”. I think as a good dog mommy I should know what breed he is.

Honestly don’t waste your money on the DNA tests that claim to tell you the breed of your dog. They are highly inaccurate. DNA testing in dogs is reliable to tell if a specific dog is the parent of another dog but not to identify breeds of dogs with unknown paternity. There have been examples of breed clubs sending samples from dogs with well known ancestry for many generations to these companies to test the accuracy of their results and the tests come back not only with completely different breeds than the dog is with out even listing the breed the dog is in the mix it lists (even when that breed is on their list of breeds they can “detect” ) but consists of breeds that were never even part of the breeds used to produce the breed hundreds of years prior.
