Dog Breed Throw

Can you suggest a dog breed please?

Hiya :)

I was hoping someone could suggest either a dog breed or a site with a comprehensive dog breed questionnaire?

I’m after a dog that could cope with an intensive running routine on roads, in mud, through water, when its hot, when its cold – anything nature can throw at it (with necessary care from me).

I’d like it to be as small as possible, but large enough to keep up with a moderate jogging pace without struggling and lots of stamina.

I’d like it smooth haired and i like toned looking dogs with muscle definition – or short haired at the most with minimal shedding.

I also like the legs to appear long, but now i’m just stating my ideal, not deal breakers.

And a nice alert face.

Personality-wise it needs to be independent but comfortable with other dogs and small children.

Thanks

Hi back at you, luli.

My first thought was Shiba Inu, but you don’t want a fluffy coat.

Then, I thought Whippet or Staffordshire Bull Terrier. These might be great, but you’d probably have to coat them in cold weather.

And the SBT does not have long legs.

My next concern is that I’m simply not a big fan of dogs on concrete. Their bodies just aren’t set up to handle that kind of impact. Since whippets are more fine boned than other dogs, this could create problems. And no dig is set up to be marathoning on hard surfaces.

Personality is not breed specific. Yes, breeds have personality characteristics, but ‘comfortable with other dogs and small children’ will be dependent on how he’s raised and proper breeding.

How small is ‘small as possible’? Under 20lbs? Then the Basenji is another option. If you can go bigger, then a Vizsla could also be good.

International dog breed spotting cometition!
