dog breeding age information
Questions for experienced dog breeders only?

1) What is the proper age to breed a female dog? Does the breed effect the proper age? ( I realize they cant be really old or really young)

2) Where can I learn more about breeding? ( I could look up this information the web but i fear i may get the wrong info)

3) Where can I find a good stud dog and how do I know for sure that it has good hips, and is healthy?

4) What is the standard agreement for a stud dog?
Thanks

5) I heard sometimes the female doesnt want the male dog to mount her. I feel that holding her still is mean. Does this really ever happen?

6) After a dog has puppies, her nipples get pretty big and it looks painful and gross. Does this ever go away?

Thanks

1) When your b*tch has been assessed by your mentor and others as suitable, when her genetic screening has been done (if not clear by parentage), when you find a dog whose qualities will compliment those of your b*tch, on at least the third heat cycle or the age of two. It depends on whether or not hip scores need to be done. These can only be done after the age of two.
2) by visiting dog shows and finding a mentor, the book ‘Dog Breeding for Dummies’, speaking to your vet
3) again by following the advice of a knowledgeable mentor.
4) sometimes the owner of the stud may want a pup from the litter, a stud fee is usually about the same price as a pup, some owners put in stipulations about whether or not the pups go on limited or main register.
5) this does happen occasionally with younger or inexperienced b*tches. It is much safer for both the animals if they are restrained.
6)The mammary glands will return to about pre-pregnancy size but the nipple will remain larger than before.
