I want to know if Chows are a good breed for a first time dog owner .. Can you list the pros and cons of a chow chow too … Thnx

No, not for an inexperienced owner. I grew up with one, and have known a good number of them, our family became great friends with the breeder. They are beautiful. Leal. Independent, intelligent. Obedient, if trained properly, consistently and continuously. Great guard dogs. My parents owned / trained dogs all his life, so I spent much time and energy, and made an excellent job training / social life of our Chow Chow and never showed aggression towards me or my brother, we were 5 and 7 years old when the family has a dog as a puppy. They are stubborn to train, are very independent and stubborn. They require a lot of socialization and training should be reinforced every day of their lives. They need lots of grooming and maintenance. That are not exactly social butterflies, ours used to enjoy chilling out for himself more to play with us If you do not know what you're doing and are unable to properly train / socialize this dog that can (and are known to) become a nightmare. Personally, I do not I expect to get another one. They are a very special race, actually my favorite breed. But NEVER recommend a Chow Chow to an inexperienced owner.
