Dog Breeds Home Alone

Is it okay to leave a puppy home alone for 6 hours?
I have decided on getting a puppy, my only issue is that during the day, I’m at school for 6 hours, therefore the dog will be alone. I talked to the breeder, and they said that leaving them in a crate is fine, as long as you walk the puppy right before and right after being in the crate. This will also housebreak it. What do you guys think? The breed I’m getting is a German Shepherd, And is it okay for when he gets older to leave him outside? My mom has some issues about leaving the dog alone in the house. I just need some dog owners opinions. Thanks
I would not leave your puppy for more than 6-7 hours (at least initially.)
He / She won’t be happy being alone, but will be perfectly safe and will feel safe in the crate.
If it EVER messes its crate then you know you have a problem and need to change something in how you are managing its care and come up with some other ideas because dogs will endeavor to withstand whatever to keep their “bed” areas as clean as possible.
My puppy would be fine in the crate for the night which meant 6-7 hours. When he was very young, and I had to leave during the day I either put him in the crate or left him in the kitchen with it’s tile floor, which I could easily clean till his training was complete.
Leaving a dog outside is fine, but you need to provide a fenced area, shelter from the weather / sun / rain, and a source (bowl) of water.
Shepherds are typically “one” person dogs. So try to be that “one” by doing the largest role in the care and training of your dog.
