Is it okay to feed an old dog cat food?

Our 14 year old Dalmatian is in poor health because of an enlarged heart. He’s on medication. He also has cataracts and is deaf. I’m having trouble getting him to eat his dog food. I tried cat food and he likes it. So, is it a big problem to feed him Meow Mix in his old age?

Cat food is harder on the kidneys than dog food because it has more protein. So theoretically it would be really bad for an older dog in bad health.

But if it were my dog. I would give him anything to please him at that age whether it was cat food or baby food. He has had a good long life. I would let him die happy because even the best food will not add that much more time to his life. You have taken really good care of him. Dalmatians usually only live about 10 years. He is blessed to have you for an owner.
