I need help finding the right dog breed for my family?

We are looking for a dog after losing our years ago, was a American Bulldog, but had the soft mud and we were very lucky to have this type of dog that is so sweet and not risk another of this breed to have children young. The fact is that my husband and I have very different tastes. My husband wants something like a Italian Greyhound / Norfolk / Cairn Terrier type, as he likes to run and things like greyhounds, I want a dog that is not pet a working dog, I love old English shepherd (prefer a dog like that, but smaller) Havana, British Bulldogs, Pugs. Please can someone inform us of a beautiful breed of dog that I think would go through what I said, as I said we young children and a dog very active for walks, Thanks
