Help with dog decision?

I would like to get a dog(large dog) that is a high watch dog and high guard dog, but needs to be somewhat independant I will be away for 8hrs a day, a dog that will want to jog about 8 miles a day or more, but if a couch potatoe I will consider. I live in a apartment that doesn’t accepts dangerous breeds like pitbulls, rotweillers, chow chows. I don’t want a medium or small size dog because I want some protection while jogging and when away from home, and because I like to wrestle a little with my dogs.

German Shepherds are very loyal, versatile dogs.
