Papillon Dog Health Issues
Smallest size you would feel comfortable having a dog spayed?
My new puppy is on the small size, full grown she will probably hit around 5lbs. I have always had my pets spayed/neutered in the past but I was wondering if because she is so small the anesthesia with the surgery might be an unnecessary risk? She is a papillon which from what I have read they are prone to issues with it anyways. I have no intention of breeding her and I know their are health benefits to the surgery but I wanted to opinions if you would consider the risk worth it.
She is completely indoors and not around any intact male dogs at any time.
She’d be healthier and happier if you spayed her. Her chances of running away would be very high because of instinct, also mammary tumor is the number 1 tumor in dogs not spayed. the vet will do a blood check before they put her under. also, if the anesthesia is too much for her or she reacts bad, they just stop the anesthesia gas. There are alot of yorkies spayed routinely, and they are (healthily) 5-7 lbs.
