What is the perfect small dog breed for me?

My parents have decided that they will get me a puppy of my own, they just want to know what breed I’d like to get. I have the time to care for the dog. I’d like a small breed of dog. Thank You in advance!

My personal favorite is a Pomeranian, but they have long hair and need a lot of grooming. You need to figure out how much time you want to spend on grooming as well as exercise before you choose the breed. Some breeds require very little grooming and exercise while others need a lot more care.

Also, be sure to check out the temperament of the breed. Terriers can be high strung. Poms are more laid back. Chihuahuas can be nervous. Each breed has it’s own type of personality, but, of course, every dog has it’s own individual personality and there are exceptions to every breed.

For the small breeds, you can get a dog as small as 3 pounds. The Chihuahua is the smallest breed, but once I saw a “teacup” poodle that was only like 2 pounds – it would fit in the palm of your hand and it was full grown!
