My minpin had 3 puppies, all but 1 dead. Is this normal for a small dog?

The puppies all looked normal but we were not able to revive them.
I’ve heard that this happens with small breed dogs.
Pups were full term.
The vet was there when she had her pups. We live on an island in Thailand and the dr cannot express herself well in english, but is a good dr and our dogs love her.

I’m not sure if it happens more in small dogs.. I think Small dogs have smaller litters in general .. SO loosing 2 or 3 pups could be a whole litter. Where as in a larger breed dog such as a Great Dane, 3 puppies is sad.. but there still may be 5 or 6 living puppies. It does happen in every breed though. There are so many things that can go wrong in a breeding or a pregnacy and then the actual whelp.

More puppies do tend to be lost when you don’t have the proper experience or instruction. I’m very sorry this happened.

I know it seems gruesome, but you may want to save the deceased puppies… put them in the refrigerator and take them to the vet for an autopsy ( necropsy) and then you will find out why they died.. and if there is anything you may need to know about .

The important thing is that your mom is healthy, alive.. and that you have 1 baby who has a chance in this world. Things could have gone a lot worse. You mom could have died..

Please consider altering your female. Just having her intact could be risking her life. There is a type of pyrometra (sp?) that is undetectable until it’s to late.
