The Best Dog Breed For Kids

Looking for a DOG. Which breed is the BEST for my family?
Hello,
I do have some experiences with smaller dogs (poodeles, shit-zus, malteese, and chwawa) before but my family and I are looking to get a larger dog for outside. My kids (10 and 7) are very excited about this as well as I am but cannot decide on the breed. In your experience, what will be the best breed for our family? We do not have any allergies and we have decent size back yard.
All your comments are welcome!
Unless you were to adopt more than one dog, I would not kep him outside. It’s cruel and very cold for the dog, he needs the close human companion ship, as he will see you as the leader of the pack, and they need constant reinforcement, love and acceptance.
I know people who have adopted a pair from a litter, or, a pair from the local shelter, and that has worked out very well for them as the dogs slept outside together and throughout the day has the option to be indoors and outdoor. The dogs were considered a big part of the family and not considered simply guard dog.
I would look into retriever breeds, as they are of a strong constitution, and with training and socialization will be loving as well. The last time I visted the shelter there were lots of retriever, Golden and Labs in need of a home… But remember, if they are going to stay outside, for whatever reason, he should be long-haired for long cold lonely nights…. I keep my big dog indoors always, but outside for potty, and he is very protective, very cuddly and extremely eager to train… He is an American Staffordshire Terrier http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Staffordshire_Terrier (sometimes grouped along with pit bulls because of their appearance). If you are looking for a strong dog with a HUGE heart look into this breed. There are lots of rescue organizations who work with Amstaffs and other breeds like them, they are sometimes abandoned because of their HIGH level of energy, and care requirements. My Stafff Terrier likes to bounce around like a jackrabbit when he is excited, but he is the most driven creature I have ever been blessed to know. Very, very smart. And he is great with kids, he has only tested with people who try to hurt him. (many pit bull like breed have been abused simply because of their looks and childlike nature as a pup)
So I hope you consider all breeds and that you also decide to let him sleep and stay indoors with you more often than not. He will fall deep in love with the one who trains him and guides him in the right direction, no matter what breed you choose. And from my experience all dogs are pretty much the same in watch-dogability…. it’s just a matter of how dedicated you are to your furry companion.
