Have you ever been bitten by a dog?

For an assignment I’m doing, I thought an informal poll might add something to it.

If so:
~What breed of dog?
~What were you doing?

I personally have been bitten many times, but most of the time, it’s a small dog that bites me and actually leaves a mark.

Both my husband and I have been bitten, both times by Rhodesian ridgebacks, but then, all but one of our dogs have been ridgebacks. Both incidents involved a very skittish, fear-aggressive foster dog that we ended up rehoming after the second bite.

I was bitten first, when I tried to stop my dog Reese from snapping at the foster for growling at me. I put my hand in the wrong place at the wrong time and basically stuck my hand in her mouth. (Stupid of me!) It wasn’t even technically a bite, as there was just one break in my skin where a canine tore across it. (I have a 1/2 inch scar.) I remember it like it was in slow motion: my dog saw my hand coming and tried like hell to pull her bite. She’s such a good dog.

When my husband was bitten, he was helping break up a fight between the foster dog and a friend’s bulldogs. He tripped and fell and the foster grabbed ahold of his arm. It required over 20 stitches.

The foster got rehomed with a rescue worker who was very experienced in rehabilitating aggressive dogs. And more importantly in my opinion, whose home was much more quiet and stable than ours. That poor dog had been harshly trained and then kennelled for a couple of years straight. She was a neurotic mess. The new lady has had her for 7 years now and there hasn’t been another incident since. She says she’s a wonderful dog.

Good luck with your assignment and I hope I was able to help.

Attack Dog Training! Must see. Amazing! (K9-1.com)
