worst dog breeds for kids
What breed of dog would be best for my 6 year old daughter?

I’ve done so much research on this subject and still have no clue. One book will say a certain breed is best for kids, and another book will say that same breed is the worst for kids. I’m good with dogs period, I just want a breed that’s generally known to be good with children.
Forgive me if i sound like captain obvious here, but i just wanted to point out that my daughter is in no way going to be the primary care-taker of this dog. That’s my job.

I will begin with saying that one of the best family dogs around is a lab. I have a lab cross and he is a dream with my son. My sister has also always had labs with her children.

What we don’t know is how large your yard is, do you want a big dog, medium sized dog, or a small dog? In addition, while some dogs certainly are not, and will never be, good with children, a good deal of how they are stems from how they are treated and trained. I would avoid buying any animal from pet shops or backyard breeders. If you are going to buy one please make sure the breeder is reputable. This helps minimize the chances of your dog having some of the bad things that go along with bad breeding (eye, skin, and joint problems..for example).

Have you considered going to an animal shelter and taking your daughter with you to see if there might be a dog that might bond with her? There is no rule that says you have to have a pure bred dog (but to go with that..many shelter dogs are pure bred). In addition, you would be saving a life…such an awesome bonus.

GOOD LUCK with your search. I am in the process of looking for a new puppy for my son as well..I hope to hit the shelters week after next…can’t wait.

Just keep your options open and have fun in your search!
